California Homebuilding Foundation announces 2016 ‘Hall of Fame’ inductees

SACRAMENTO –Six reputable building industry leaders will be inducted into the California Homebuilding Foundation (CHF) 2016 Hall of Fame on June 21 at the Westin St. Francis in San Francisco.

For more than 30 years, the Foundation’s annual Hall of Fame gala has recognized over 200 distinguished individuals for their professional and philanthropic contributions to homebuilding, construction and related industries. The inductee class of 2016 is as follows:

Douglas F. Bauer: Co-founder and CEO of TRI Pointe Group, Inc. in Irvine, CA. Bauer previously held the title of President and COO over the course of his 20-year career with William Lyon Homes. In 2009, Bauer and his two co-founders, Tom Mitchell and Mike Grubbs, established TRI Pointe Group, at which he is currently the CEO. Under Bauer’s leadership TRI Pointe has grown from a small start-up to one of the top 10 homebuilding companies in the US, as measured by market capitalization, with operations in eight states covering thirteen markets and over 1,000 team members. Bauer has been actively involved in both legislative efforts and community enhancement programs through his affiliations with the California Building Industry Association (CBIA) and HomeAid. Kevin S. Carson: Northern California President of The New Home Company. With 30 years of acquired homebuilding experience, Carson served as President of Ryland Homes’ Sacramento division from 1994 to 1998, later becoming President of John Laing Homes, leading the division to building over 5,000 homes throughout Northern California. In 2014 under Carson’s leadership, The New Home Company began development of The Cannery—a sustainable, farm-totable community located in Davis, CA. In addition to his role as company President, Carson also currently serves on the Executive Board of HomeAid.

Ian M. Gill: Founding Principal of Highland Partnership, Inc., a regional Design Build general contractor, and Silvergate Development in San Diego, CA. Gill’s over 40 years in the real estate development and construction industry encompass numerous residential and commercial projects in the United States and Great Britain, including his executive role for the Redevelopment Agency in coordinating the planning and build-out of the Downtown Ballpark District in San Diego. Gill obtained his M.S. in Real Estate and Construction from Loughborough University, certification from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Quantity Surveying Division) and his Class B General Contractor License from the State of California. As a principal of Highland and Silvergate he is responsible for overseeing the operations of both companies.

Carl W. Lagoni, AIA: CEO of Bassenian Lagoni architecture firm located in Newport Beach, CA. Lagoni graduated from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, with a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and is currently a registered architect in over 10 different US states. Lagoni’s 40 years’ of experience includes affiliations with the American Institute of Architects (AIA), National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), Building Industry Association of Southern California (BIASC) and the Urban Land Institute. In addition to his renowned success in various design competitions, Lagoni leads and inspires a 120-person staff of talented design professionals.

Cheryl A. O’Connor: Executive Director of HomeAid’s Northern California chapter. O’Connor served as CEO of the Building Industry Association (BIA) of the Bay Area during the height of the economic recession from 2009 to 2011, successfully reducing organizational costs and redirecting focus to political advocacy. As Regional Chair of the BIA in 2008, O’Connor initiated green building standards, a forerunner to the California green energy code. She held senior- level leadership positions in sales and marketing and was directly responsible for the opening of more than 50 award winning new home communities. O’Connor serves on several non-profit Boards including STAND! For Families Free of Violence, HomeAid America and Build it Green.

Timothy P. Sullivan: Practice Leader of Meyers Research LLC, a Kennedy Wilson Company. Sullivan began his 33-year career in the early ‘80s researching and conceptualizing the creation of “new towns” (now referred to as master-planned communities). His innovative approach to housing market research originated from early collaborations with Sandy Goodkin and Jeff Meyers. After establishing Sullivan Group Real Estate Advisors, Sullivan rejoined Jeff Meyers in 2013 to help develop the Zonda Database of housing market and sales information. He is the annual Facilitator of PCBC’s Leader to Leader Forum, and is actively involved with HomeAid, local BIAs, the NAHB and the Urban Land Institute.
